Victor Molev “Anna Akhmatova over the city of Creaking Statues” 2013 54x69 cm Oil on canvas
We present to your attention the work of a Canadian artist and visionary from the collection of metaphorical portraits he created. This is a double portrait of the great Russian poetess Anna Andreevna Akhmatova. The female figure sitting in the foreground in an elegant pose has a recognizable profile of Akhmatova with a characteristic hump on her nose; at the same time, the entire complex composition of the picture, from a certain distance, is her portrait. The title of the work is inspired by the work of another great Russian poet B.B. Grebenshchekov. Only one of the Creaking Statues can be seen close up, and this, in the author’s opinion, is quite enough.
