In a world where fantasy intertwines with reality, the creations of Viсtor Molev come to life, forcing us to rethink the boundaries of the possible. His painting of a dwarf sailor, or pirate, who has captured a red-haired mermaid is a prime example of his unique style. The dwarf, proudly carrying his prey on his back, runs through a meadow dotted with tall grass, like a green sea. The mermaid is slightly discouraged, because her world of water and freedom is left behind.
Where is the dwarf taking her and what is he up to? This remains a great secret that Molev can only reveal in his next creations. Perhaps the dwarf seeks to prove his courage to other pirates or wants to exchange the mermaid for treasure. Or maybe he just wants to show the world something incredible that will change him forever. We will not discuss other option...
Victor Molev Victor Molev is a Canadian artist of Russian descent, working in the styles of Decorative Realism, Fantasy, Symbolism and Surrealism. Molev was born in the year 1955 in Gorky (present day Nizhny Novgorod), Russia. From an early age, he has shown interest in the visual arts and dedicated his time to creativity. As the artist himself jokes, his love for art derived from the fact that his grandmother was kissed by Marc Chagall in her childhood. She was his younger sister’s classmate, and often visited the Chagall household. In paintings from his childhood and early youth, Molev showed an inclination towards unconventional compositions that were free of the Soviet canons of “Socialist Realism”. In the mid-1970s, as an...
