Description
Victor Molev (Canada) "The Turbulent Water Component of the Mona Lisa." 2022 45x61 Oil on Canvas.
A new work by Canadian surrealist and storyteller Viktor Molev from his author's painting series "Five Elements of Mona Lisa".
This work has more than one semantic content. Element of Water. Water is the beginning, the initial state of all things, the source of life. Also, water is a symbol of the feminine, so the fish becomes an attribute of many Great Goddesses (Atargatis, Ishtar, Astarte, Aphrodite). In this composition, the author puts the model of the Great Leonardo on a par with the goddesses of antiquity, because she is not inferior to them in popularity. And this is an act of deification of a woman.
Fishes. . In Judaism, the fish are the believers of Israel in their true element, in the waters of the Torah. Fish is the food of the Sabbath, a symbol of the heavenly feast.
. In a number of mythological plots where a giant fish (or whale) swallows and then releases the hero (as, for example, in the myth of Ion), the fish acts as a kind of equivalent of the lower world, the realm of the dead. These plots symbolize the process of initiation, rebirth after a symbolic death.
In early Christianity, the fish was adopted as a symbol of Christ by many Church Fathers. The sign of the fish was the first monogram of Christ
And these semantic layers overlapped each other, mixed up in the mind of the artist and poured onto the canvas, which he offers to the attention of a respected viewer.
